Meet Our Pastor

Pastor, Rev. Cheryl Filson

Rev. Cheryl Filson serves First Baptist Church Mansfield, with a heart for discipleship, community connection, and sharing the Gospel in practical ways.

Before entering ministry, she worked as a medical laboratory technician for 28 years, serving her community—26 of those years at Chambersburg Hospital.

In 2000, she responded to God’s call to ministry and began training through the Certified Lay Minister program with the Harrisburg/East Church Leadership Institute. She earned her Lay Minister certificate in 2003 through ABCOPAD CLI, completed her B.A. at Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (2008), and finished her theological training at Palmer Theological Seminary (2012).

Before coming to Mansfield, she served as Associate Pastor and Pastor of Christian Education at Martin Luther King Baptist Church in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She was mentored through seminary and ordination by Rev. Dr. Lavette R. Paige. Rev. Filson is an active
member of ABCOPAD and serves on the ABCOPAD board.

Rev. Filson and her husband, Douglas (Doug) Filson, have been married for 38 years. Doug serves as a Pennsylvania State Constable. They have three children, Abigail, Caleb, and Katherine, and are grateful to be grandparents.

Pastor Cheryl is deeply involved in local ministries and enjoys supporting local businesses and community events. She is continually looking for ways to connect the church with friends and neighbors throughout the Mansfield area.

Her vision is for First Baptist Church Mansfield, to be welcoming and
accessible to all. A place where people can grow in faith and experience the love of Christ.

The Word Inspires Me

Psalm 117:2 (ESV) “For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord!”

John 3:16–17 (ESV) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”

Ephesians 2:8–9 (ESV) “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
